Governors
WHAT WE ARE WORKING ON AT THE MOMENT
In many ways, schools are like businesses in that we have short, medium and long term plans. Every year, Mr MacKenzie puts together a detailed strategic development plan known as the School Improvement Plan (SIP). This sets out the four keys areas that she and the staff feel are the most important targets for the school for that year. As governors, we’ll be asking for regular updates from the school, showing the work that they are doing to meet these targets and we will be visiting the school ourselves, to monitor this progress and to ensure that these targets are being met.
This year, the focus is on continuing to raise standards in Maths and English and continuing to develop the children so that they become confident and independent learners. In addition, we shall be looking at how we can develop the children's use of IT skills in all areas of their learning and specifically, through their use of Wizkid. Finally, we shall be looking at how we can strengthen communication between school and home, so that we have a well balanced partnership that works together to support each child.
In our last meeting, we discussed the four key areas of the SIP and started planning how we will be able to monitor progress. We have formed two Action Groups and are currently putting together a detailed and comprehensive plan of activity to address each target. As part of this activity, we shall be visiting the classes, observing the ways in which the staff work to meet these targets and - with their permission - talking to some of the children. We always discuss our findings in detail within our sub-committees (Curriculum and Standards and Communication) and then report our observations at our full Governing Body Meetings. If you are interested in seeing what we have said, details will be reported in the minutes and can be read either on this website, or in the reception area at the school.
In addition to this, we also make sure that we consider the other areas important and necessary to our school. This is wide-ranging, but includes, for example, the safety and well-being of all the children, the delivery of an exciting and stimulating curriculum, the upkeep of the premises and support for the staff.
Becoming a governor is extremely rewarding and we are all delighted that we can contribute in a real way to the development of the school. If you have any questions, or would like to contact us about anything, then please do so using the email address below.
